Distribution – Throughout south India, growing in wild deciduous forests.
PLANT DESCRIPTION
A moderate sized armed tree grows up to 20 meters in height. Leaves simple, alternate, ovate, acute or acuminate, pubescent, with prominent veins. Stem armed with sharp woody, sometimes branched thorns. Flowers in axillary spikes, small and unisexual. Fruits drupes, 5 mm in diameter, contain single seed.
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated vata, pitta, diarrhea, dysentery, hemorrhoids, hemorrhage, menorrhagia, leucorrhea, arthritis, diabetes, wounds, ulcers and poison. Plant has contraceptive action.
Useful part : Bark, Leaves.
