History of Ayurveda

The Great Indian Art of healing, Ayurveda is believed to be as old as the religion of Hinduism. The comprehensive knowledge of Ayurveda along with spiritual insight of virtue and self realization was recorded in the written form for over 4000 years ago in the Vedas.
The documentation of ancient wisdom was in the form of Rig, Sama, Yajur and Adharva vedha. Ayurveda was an upavedha (branch) of Adharva vedha which included details of warfare and artillery.
The ocean of Ayurvedic knowledge is believed to be divine and was communicated to the sages through deep meditation, the only motive being benefit of mankind which is undoubtedly the corner stone of Sanadhanadharma (Universal religion), widely propagated in Samkhya Philosophy.
Around 1500 B.C. Ayurveda boomed in to an extensively used and established system of healing. The two schools of thought came into existence, namely Arthreya School of physician and Dhanwanthari School of surgeons. The specific branch of Ayurveda evolved into eight fold system.

  1. Dear Friend,

Avoid mistakes such as Adharva Vedha, Sanadhanadharma and Rig. They are Atharva Veda, Sanatana Dharma and Rik+Veda= Rgveda. 4000 years etc are British/European vested Ad-BC oriented calculations. When we state sanatana, where is the question of 4000 years? Think of the Yuga, Kalpa,Manvantara Concepts which give the unimaginably great expanse of Time!

    Best Wishes for good posts.
