Distribution – Cultivated along the costal regions of south India.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
A tall, unbranched palm grows up to 35 meters in height. Leaves large, pinnately compound, leaflets up to 1 meter long, tapering with tough central nerve. Flowers in spadix inflorescence, enclosed within the hard spathe. Flowers unisexual, with many mail flowers and a few female. Fruits globose, green fibrous one seeded drupes; seeds oval with hard endocarp and white tasty endosperm, and sweet milky fluid in the cavity.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated vata, pitta, thirst, dyspepsia, diarrhea, intestinal worms, menorrhagia, general debility, dehydration and renal diseases. Plant has aphrodisiac property.
Useful part : Almost all parts of plant have medicinal properties.
