PLANT DESCRIPTION

An erect perennial shrub or tree grows up to 5 meters long. Leaves long, coriaceous, with marginal and medial spines. Male flowers in numerous subsessile spikes, with fragrant spathe, female solitary in spadix. Fruits oblong or cylindrical syncarps, yellow when ripe. Stem contain numerous leaf marks, and is supported by aerial stilt roots.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Plant pacifies vitiated kapha, pitta, urinary retention, skin diseases, headache, ear ache, wounds, flatulence, colic, arthritis, cervical spondylosis, fever, diabetes, infertility, habitual abortion and general debility.
